Nikon D80: stunning photos despite us

By , published on 12 January 2008

For all our love of gadgets, The Guide is embarrassed to admit that it has never found time to properly understand the intricacies of quality photography. Oh sure, we like the end results, but we have no understanding of how it is achieved. We are self-confessed photography ignoramuses.

What we do know, however, is that ever since acquiring Nikon’s mid-range D80 our photos look absolutely stunning. Even with the control dial set firmly to Automatic and fools like us pressing the shutter button, this thing produces beautiful shots almost every time. You really don’t seem to be able to go wrong.

In time, we hope to learn more about the myriad of manual settings, the subtle effects of aperture values and the impact of shutter speeds. When we do, we’ll post a more in-depth review, but in the meantime, we’re just marvelling at how much better everything looks through the lens of the D80.

Not only does it produce gorgeous images, but the D80 has the bullet-proof build quality and reassuring heft that have made Nikon the choice of photojournalists the world over for years. This gorgeously built camera feels reassuringly solid in your hands.

If you haven’t yet invested in DSLR, you owe it to yourself to do so today. After all, photos are memories and once taken, you can’t go back and take them again. Make sure they’re as Prodigal as they can be.

      Oops!

That post is like three years old and we (or rather you) only just noticed now. Who the Hell edits this rag!? Oh wait…

Thanks for the spot. Now fixed.

Mr. Fool, your literary style and wit more than make up for an occasional typographical error.

    Congratulations on the excellent website.

    Sincerely,

P.S. (and completely off-topic) Ever have plans to do a review/talking hands on the excellent Girard-Perregaux Laureato? I have had on gracing my wrist for about 4 months now, and it is bloody brilliant!

As soon as Girard-Perregaux send us one for review, we’ll happily feature it in an episode of Talking Hands. In the meantime…we’re always open to guest submissions, so why not pen a review yourself and send it over. If you can get the name of the brand right then you’ll already be one step ahead of us fools…

That is an appealing invitation to be sure! I’ll see what I can do…
