The most complete is actually incomplete: Audi RS6
By The Prodigal Fool, published on 26 April 2008
There’s something irresistible to us about a car so subtle that the majority of onlookers don’t even notice it, yet capable of super car like performance. These things are comfortable, practical, discreet and devastatingly fast. That makes them Prodigal cars in our book.
Indeed, so taken are we with the concept that we recently chose to spend our own money on an S4 Avant.
So, when Evo recently reviewed Audi’s latest RS6, we lapped up every word with devout interest.
We’ll leave you to check out the article for yourselves – it’s a great read – but here are just a few hard facts to get you thinking:
- Twin-turbo 5-litre V10
- 572 bhp
- 0-62 mph in 4.6 sec
- 0-124 mph in 14.9 sec
The problem is that for all its devastating power, for all its supremely competent ability, the RS6 is simply not the thrill ride you’d hope for. And honestly, the same must be said of our S4.
Which means, as Evo points out, that this most complete of cars, this phenomenal combination of power and practicality, is actually strangely incomplete.
If you’re looking to build yourself a really Prodigal garage, a complete one, you’re going to need both an RS6 for the daily grind, the family trips; and a cheeky 911 for when you really want to have fun.
