Shutter Island looks like Scorsese at his creepiest

By , published on 1 October 2009

From Mean Streets to The Departed, through Goodfellas, Casino and Gangs of New York, no one peers inside the lives of the lawless as shrewedly or as stylishly as Martin Scorsese.

But what sometimes gets forgotten while we’re praising his work on gangster flicks is that Scorsese is a hugely talented filmmaker who can turn his hand successfully to almost every genre. He’s done costume drama (The Age of Innocence), music videos (Michael Jackson’s Bad) and – most notably, he’s an absolute master of the suspense thriller. Check out his remake of Cape Fear in case you’re in any doubt.

So, with that in mind, and great acting support from the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kinsgley on board, we are very much looking forward to his upcoming Shutter Island.

What in the hands of a lesser director, could end up being little more than your typical ‘haunted house’ horror picture, looks like it’s going to have all the depth, intrigue and cleverness of Scorsese at his creepiest.

Come nightfall, he can invariably be found stumbling out of Dukes mumbling “just one more Martini; I could have handled just one mmmmm… [thud!]”

    It looks SO GOOD!!

What’s so cool for me is that I’m reading the book and what I just read last night has changed my perception of the trailer from my first viewing yesterday. There’s one shot that I’m hoping is not a massive spoiler, but even so, it’s a fun ride.

Is there an actor in the cast that has NOT been nominated for an Oscar? Great job, Paramount, in delaying the film to next year. :p

I’m with you on that Dan. It looks great but I can’t understand the delay either.

Ah well, good things come to those who wait right!?
