Perpetuelle reports on the Rolex Deep Sea Special

We’ve been hard on Rolex today. That’s mostly because we have so much respect for the brand’s past. As a result, it matters to us if we think it’s messing up its future. Rolex has so many classic models to its name and is so intrinsically linked to so many achievements in sports and exploration that when we see it ruining its current portfolio, it makes us want to stand up and be counted.

How timely therefore that the guys over at Perpetuelle chose today of all days to write about an absolutely mythical watch in the history of Rolex: the Deep Sea Special.

No, no, this is not the unpleasant replacement for our beloved Sea-Dweller. It’s far, far more special than that.

Waterproof to…wait for it….seven miles below sea-level, this little puppy is a very special watch indeed. It accompanied the crew of the Trieste as they dove to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, knows as Challenger Deep.
