In conversation with Jorn Werdelin, managing director, Linde Werdelin
By The Prodigal Fool, published on 9 August 2010
We first came across Linde Werdelin at SalonQP last year and were immediatley impressed by this Danish newcomer to the luxury watch scene. By blending digital instruments with mechanical watches, wrapped in design that was modern yet stylish, the brand seemed to have achieved the impossible: it had created something genuinely different from the raft of other new brands vying for attention and had done so while remaining desirable and with its own very cool identity.
Since then, they’ve been going from strength to strength: kicking off a widely admired marketing campaign based on beautifully drawn comic book characters, releasing new models regularly and generating more than their fair share of coverage in the blogosphere.
So, we thought it was high-time we got to know them a little better. One sunny afternoon last month we made our way to Linde Werdelin’s Notting Hill studio to pin down the man in charge: Jorn Werdelin.
We’ve embedded the video below and we think it’s well worth seven minutes or so of your time. Werdelin talks about the brand’s approach to design, tackles the accusation that some LWs are too derivative of Audemars Piguet, extols the virtues of being a small manufacturer, praises his customers for their good taste and explains why the brand has taken such an innovative approach to marketing. Regardless of whether or not you like Linde Werdelin’s products, it’s a fascinating insight into a small, innovative luxury brand trying to make a name for itself.
Oh, and if you do like the watches, don’t worry, we didn’t leave Linde Werdelin without getting up close and personal with some of its more interesting models. We’ll have more video footage for you later in the week. Enjoy.

It’s no secret The Fool and I are are becoming bigger fans of Linde W. by the day. But it’s always insightful to watch and listen to the people behind these brands. Jorn Werdelin is as I expected given his Danish origins: to the point; minimal bullshit; conveys modernity and history and you’re sure you’re not going to get what everyone else offers.
This is a brand that is going places their way. No “luxury watchmaker ad nauseum..” crap. I respect and like that.
And yes: €5k – €15k is the timepiece price range I currently operate within. Well, when the wife lets me out of the dog-house, that is…
