SalonQP 2011 highlights: A man in a raincoat exhibits his pick
By The Editors, published on 16 November 2011
It was hard not to notice the old gent in the raincoat. Particularly since it wasn’t raining inside the SalonQP 2011 event at the Saatchi Gallery. And yet there he was. Close to us. And getting ever closer. But to what? Us? Or the pieces inside the watch case the three of us were milling around?!
Interminable seconds went by before he smiled broadly and asked, in a breathy voice: “Want to see mine?” We were paralysed with fear at this point and about to scream for security when he reached for the cuff strap on his right sleeve and pulled it back sharply, only to reveal the most delightful iteration of Jaeger LeCoultre’s Amvox series: the limited edition Alarm model in titanium.
Your editors, now greatly at ease and once again drinking furiously for God and country, were fascinated enough to have the gent give us, and you, a full blown demo of his lightweight alarm. The sound of which even now rings ever so gently and delicately in our ears.
That man in the raincoat surely had the finest-sounding, clanging bells we’ve yet been exposed to. But he might want to lose the raincoat. At least indoors.
