Obsessive? Us!?
If you pause for a moment and consider the multitude of objects that surround us each and every day, you would rapidly find yourself drifting into triple figures. The Guide celebrates only the most worthwhile and excellent of objects, whatever our means of interaction with them. Here, you'll come across objects that you can drive, touch, taste, hear, look at and even consume.
But take another sip on that gin martini, have a closer look at the photo above, and think of what amplifies the appeal of an object d'art? Yes, cleanliness is next to godliness, dear friends, and one has only to look at a detailed car, a well-maintained Double-Red Rolex Sea-Dweller or even the immaculate nature of a hotel like the George V to appreciate the verity of such a saying.

Amongst car lovers, you'll find a passion that extends well beyond the driving experience (and mastery thereof) - however magnificent it may be. For what does an enthusiast like to do when he/she is not driving their vehicle of choice? Why drink in the sight of it. And why not? You've spent the money, time and energy to buy the steed(s) of your choice and it is only right they reflect your passion; well beyond the ability to write a mere cheque.
Car detailing is an art-form and (amongst those who have a care) can run the gamut from paying a professional to clean and care for their car(s) to those who spend up to 3 days wielding premium products, micro-fibre towels, foam applicators and orbital polishers to deliver their own metallic mirrors. And boy, is it addictive if you’re the right kind of lunatic like us.

We admit to being somewhat obsessive in this regard, joining comprehensive (and equally compulsive) forums like Detailing World to find out everything there is to know about the next best polish, wax, clay or application technique. It took 10 years for one of The Guide’s editors to move from a simple ‘wash-with-sponge-and-dish-soap’ to the level he now finds himself at: five-hour-long detailing sessions twice a year and washing the car every 10 days, or so. We won't begin to mention the leather cleaners and conditioners he has worked his way through, or the tire dressing products sampled, as you no doubt get the point.
Yes, we love to use our cars and push them as hard as we can without undue stress or damage. Turning your ride into a so-called Garage Queen (a car that is lavished with attention only to be locked up for fear of a blemish...) defeats the purpose of owning a scintillating and stimulating ride. The real trick is combining the two to satisfy not only onlookers, but the person who counts the most: you.
