Bottle Shock trailer looks very promising

The Guide loves food & drink and films. So, is it any surprise that we’re looking forward to Randy Miller’s upcoming Bottle Shock? The film tells the true(ish) story of Steven Spurrier, a sommelier in Paris, who in 1976 comes to the Napa Valley to take the best he can find back to Paris for [...]

Public Enemies trailer gets our blood pumping

Michael Mann first caught our attention in 1986 with Manhunter, which – despite the sheer excellence that is The Silence of The Lambs – is, in many ways, still the most interesting of the Thomas Harris, Lecter book adaptations.  After Manhunter, he went on to pretty much single-handedly define the quintessential style of the 80s [...]

Trailer for Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds

The trailer for Inglourious Basterds (yes, that’s how they’re insisting on spelling it!), Tarantino’s upcoming, blood-soaked, World War II flick is out and The Guide can’t help liking it. There’s very little to see except for Brad Pitt but the little you do see and the thumping soundtrack gives you a pretty good idea [...]

Indiana Jones! I always knew one day you’d come walking back through my door…

OK, OK, we give up! The fourth instalment of Dr Jones’ adventures opens this week and the Guide is officially excited. We admit it! Cynical commercial juggernaut or not, we just can’t help looking forward to this.

Towering bat inferno

Cinematical is reporting today on a brand new poster that’s just been released for this summer’s The Dark Knight. And, as we’ve come to expect from the pre-publicity for this film, it looks amazing: utterly intimidating, dark and realistic. Honestly, The Guide could not be more excited about this film if we tried. Every single [...]

The dark spy returns

We love cars, food, gadgets, films, travel and watches. So, really, will it surprise any Prodigal readers to learn that The Guide is a huge James Bond fan? We loved Daniel Craig’s gritty reinvention of the role in 2006’s Casino Royale. Its follow up, Quantum of Solace, is due this year and the first teaser [...]

Indy back soon

Vanity Fair has just published a preview of the fourth instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Like all movie buffs, The Guide absolutely adores Raiders. Indeed, we think it’s up there with the very best. We enjoyed Temple of Doom and put up with Last [...]

The Dark Knight trailer is out

Batman Begins is probably the finest comic book adaptation ever filmed. The Guide loves Christopher Nolan’s dark, gritty and realistic vision of Gotham and the Batman mythology. And judging by this just-released trailer, its sequel, The Dark Knight, is not likely to disappoint. This thing looks absolutely stunning.
