I loved it - it was a refreshing change from the over budgeted Hollywood dribble that is shoved at us. It was a reader's movie which made it a thinker's movie - proven by the fact that my husband slept through the whole event. The casting was heavy weight and seeing all that talent in the one place was worth the ticket. Better than anything I have seen for a long time.

I find it funny that in my 89 Chevy 4 Wheel Drive Truck with a V8, with the cruise control set at 70 I get more MPG than a Prius set at 70, if they can reach that speed. Their so called 50MPG is at about 45MPH.

I have hiked in Lowa Renegade GTX for years and love them. Being a big guy I enjoy the suopprt that the Renegade gives my ankles so it would be difficult for me to change to a shoe. However if you prefer a shoe to a boot I would recommend any Lowa product.

(strange, my comment on the MeisterSinger was eaten - wonder if this will work...)

Thanks for planting the Sonos seed in my head... getting married, moving to a new house, and the fiancee, while enamored with my taste in music, is not enamored with my penchant for wires and boxes.

I had initially set out to find a simple Bluetooth receiver with RCA outs to enable streaming from the laptop or iPod or Android phone... but every opportunity I've had to use Bluetooth just left me angry. Today I demoed the Sonos system first hand at a local hi-fi store. To my amazement, they had the entire store wired up through it - and it both sounded beautiful and functioned beautifully. It will integrate beautifully with my old beloved Niro (Nakamichi) One system (to keep the wires and boxes to a minimum to please my new beloved). We are both happy, and the new home will be filled with beautiful music.

So glad you like the MB II, David. It remains a firm favourite of mine. And thanks for your kind words about the show.

What will used prices of Bremonts do in a few years from now? It's impossible to say. But you know, I've always thought that when it comes to watches, you have to buy what you like. No point owning a Rolex with rock-solid residual value if you keep looking on enviously at your Bremont-toting friends!

Great review as always. I tried this on for the first time today, and was absolutely blown away by it, to the point where it has replaced the Exp II as my next watch. It certainly doesn't wear like a 43mm watch; much much smaller than a PAM, and smaller in feel than the same sized Solo due to the internal bezel. Much more versatile (on aged leather) than I expected too. Roto-click bezel is very impressive..

Maybe in house will come in the future, but like Breitling and Panerai the premium would be significant. I know my money is safer in a Rolex or Panerai, but it works for me like nothing else.

Interesting read and some neat pics. The 250 series had some fine models - I think discounting the GTO, the 250 GT swb version is my favorite but they're all special.

And I didn't know that Bruce Lee quip about Lazenby - shame he didn't do more Bond films......

Didn't you Fool or maybe Six buy and perhaps return an Explorer? I still like the new one - but I have never put it on - and have added to my list. With a Spidolite and the Bremont Chrono.

The proportions on the season one Omeeeeega (for my friends in the UK) and the original look off. Same design style wrong feel.

What kind of dork has SCDP on the back of their Reverso? Who buys that? I am with you gents on this on. Cool watch, bad idea.

Frank - You're right. I checked: the case has been 36 mm since birth (until the upsize last year to 39 mm) and have edited the post accordingly. So, I guess it's just the dial that doesn't look right on Draper's Explorer. Bottom-line: it looks like a more recent model, not a 1960s one.

Thanks for info, jding. We should have done a little more homework.

You seem a little uncertain about the Meister Singer logo, describing it as a "dot and crescent moon." I'm actually rather surprised two individuals as educated as yourselves would miss the symbolism. For future reference, the logo is almost certainly an upside-down fermata, which is a symbol used in music to indicate to the musician to spend extra time on a note, to hold it and extend it beyond the otherwise regular beat and tempo of the piece. This to me is utterly consistent with the marketing of the brand and, being a classically trained pianist, is a very pleasing aesthetic.

Just saw it last night, and it was every bit as good as the Swedish adaptation, which was a nice surprise.

America is this strange country where movies would have you believe women insist on wearing a T-shirt to make love, so it was a nice surprise to see that the crudeness of certain scenes was preserved.

The fiming is brilliant, Mara is *almost* as good as Rapace, Craig brings more charisma to the role than Nyqvist, and it's very, very clever to bring in Skarsgard as Martin.

In short, I ws sold after 15 minutes. And, yes, that Led Zep opening kicks ass.

And as if to answer your comments, Porsche respond with the all gizmo all dancing 991: PASM, Sports PASM for the hardcore (SPASM!), PDCC, torque vectoring... why it's almost GT-R meets 997. Shame about the move to electrically assisted steering though.....

>>Bottom line: don’t just dip randomly into the 911 pool. Go straight for the GT3; only it is genuinely thrilling, historic and timeless.

Hmm I would respectfully disagree on this point - isn't a standard 911 SC thrilling enough on the B4368 or a 993 RS timeless on the road to the coast from the Paul Richard circuit.....

I hated to new Exp 2 in pictures and from a theoretical perspective, but in the flesh it is, well, different...

Having spent an hour with old and new together (white) they are both very lovely. As a Submariner owner, I never appreciated how beautiful the bezel was, which is the most compelling feature of both. There is no doubt that the new one has lost subtlety and elegance, and with a suit, it is just too obvious, whereas the older model is perfect. As a more casual wearer, the new model is very nice indeed. Thinking about it, what has changed is the watches fundamental character; if you value restraint and simplicity, the older one is for you, if you want something bolder, then the new one.

I left the jeweller yesterday with a slight preference for new, only as I have an Sub for when I want to be subtle (a dive watch-subtle!), and the new one is just a bit different. Having said that the £1000 price delta is a good reason to go with the old while I can, as I will always be able to buy the current one.

Not bolshy, just wine addicted as any Burgundy-born... Sorry if my intervention was crude. English has the simplicity of having not much grammatical gender distinction, French is much trouble for this (a watch - "une montre" - is feminine in French).

Indeed, Chris. Thing is, while other brands have man-handled, over-exploited and drowned us in leitmotifs, even heritage, in areas including flying, boating, ineffectually strapping mines onto Allied ships and, uh, moon-walking, the execution on the Schofield is genuinely on another level altogether.

Despite the case height and diameter there's an incredible amount of thought and finesse that's gone into the Signalman GMT. The effect is one that pulls you ever further into the watch.

More to come...

Thank you very much. I do appreciate your efforts. I will have a little session with my friend google, maybe there is a way...

If I could be so bold and have a question concerning the Ex. Do you guys consider it a flaw that the crystal does not have any AR coating? I understand no Rolex does have that. Do you know the reason why they refuse to treat their crystals that way?

Marcus,

We tried. We really tried. But for a variety of reasons - some serious, like we no longer have the source video! - we can't get the file up. If anyone has any ideas for how to help Marcus see our YouTube-based Talking Hands, please let him and us know!

Sorry, Marcus....

Seems like a movement (pun alert!) toward watches that are influenced by something Schofield (lighthouses), Bremont (flying), must be other examples. The watches are not so much for that activity like a diver (though no one really uses a dive watch anymore), or even a "pilots'" watch, but they sport the motifs and symbols of it. Interesting.

Great looking watch, and I agree with Straight-Six that this is the most exciting piece to be presented at Salon QP. It still appears a bit heavy on the price-tag, but bring on the full review! Maybe I'll change my mind.

Im assuming you mean stunned by the movie, not my review. ;-)

Anyway, glad you liked the movie, as I think it's one of Fincher's best, and I'm glad you liked my review, too.
