The city car grows up: Audi A1 Sportback

We’re really rather taken with this little car from Audi. It looks the part and will certainly ensure that you’re cosseted from the world as you cruise down Jermyn Street for the fourth time looking for that elusive parking space. With none of the derivative looks of the current Mini or the Golf-in-drag pretence of VW’s Beetle, it looks to us as if the city car has finally grown up.

Mice and men, grape and vine, grit and grime: the Total 24 Hours of Spa

Do you really want to know how your editors found themselves in a sumptuous hospitality tent guzzling bubbly and ogling pert Czech derrieres as the Total 24 Hours of Spa spat flames, farted exhaust fumes and roared on around them? Well then, boys and girls, we’ll tell you…

Three hours at Brands Hatch fry our brakes and kill our tyres

We love our Audi S4. Love it. If getting four people and their luggage from A to B as quickly and safely as possible is your goal, then there are very few cars on the planet as capable as the little terrior from Ingolstadt. And for the great majority of the time, that’s what our [...]

The RS5 may be all the Audi we could wish for

We’re rather big fans of V8-powered Audis – in fact there’s a previous generation S4 in the Prodigal garage right now – so it’s with great joy that we welcome the return of the V8 to Audi’s latest: the RS5. Why the V8 fixation? Well the power for one – this unit produces 444 bhp [...]

When gadgets and cars collide: The new Audi A8

If you’re into gadgets (and we are) or cars (and we are), then Audi’s new A8 simply can’t help but tickle your fancy. Sure, it’s no secret that we’re disappointed by the way it looks but as further details emerge about Audi’s upcoming uber-saloon, we can’t help but warm to it. The A8 will be the [...]

Now it’s Audi’s turn to send us to sleep: The new Audi A8

Oh dear, oh dear, just a few days after we were left yawning at BMW’s new 5-series’ very derivative styling (more so than they’ve ever done in the past, the Bavarians had simply taken the model lower in the range and made it bigger), we get news from Miami that Audi has just unveiled the [...]

Why brand heritage alone won’t save you

As part of our recent jaunt around Europe in The Prodigal Fool’s trusty Audi S4, we were invited to a networking event in Geneva that was supposed to feature two speakers from well known luxury brands. For reasons that are beyond us – and indeed the organizer’s ability to explain – one of the speakers [...]

Matte black cars: Trailer park or Hyde park?

We won’t lie to you dear readers, the idea of a car – any car – covered with a matte paint job used to sound pretty tasteless to us: the kind of thing only the less discerning car fan would ever consider. But then a funny thing happened. Over the last few weeks we’ve [...]

The most complete is actually incomplete: Audi RS6

The Guide loves Audi’s high-powered estates. There’s something irresistible to us about a car so subtle that the majority of onlookers don’t even notice it, yet capable of super car like performance. These things are comfortable, practical, discreet and devastatingly fast. That makes them Prodigal cars in our book. Indeed, so taken are we with [...]
